Day 1 Schedule - Wednesday, 29th June:

  • *Mat class has to be booked separately. It is not included in the price of the workshop. Please contact us at info@studio41pilates.com for bookings.

  • Joe Pilates’ Wunder Stuhl or Wunda Chair is one of the most challenging pieces of Pilates apparatus.

This workshop will focus on how to create a balanced 55-minute workout on the Chair, maintaining the integrity of the classical Pilates method.

Commencing with basic exercises, the students will learn the key points of every exercise and how to safely progress to the advanced levels.

The workshop will also address modifications for knee, hip and wrist issues on the Chair.

  • Lunch will be served at restaurant Delphine, which is conveniently located across the road from the studio.

  • Pilates is designed to correct and balance the body, but that can be a lengthy process. Weakness and inflexibility require incisive attention and client awareness early in the training.

The Tower/Cadillac workout has developed as an invaluable method of strengthening, lengthening and focusing the client on their particular needs.

The correct neural connection can then be applied to the Mat and Reformer, which will facilitate the flow.

Everyone needs a vertical pelvis to function efficiently and this workshop will take a critical look at how to achieve that essential aspect of the Pilates method.

Remember, the position of the pelvis dictates the alignment of the rest of the spine

Day 2 Schedule - Thursday, 30th June:

  • *Mat class has to be booked separately. It is not included in the price of the workshop. Please contact us at info@studio41pilates.com for bookings.

  • This workshop by Master Instructor and Schroth certified physical therapist, Sonjé Mayo, will provide a deeper perspective and comprehension of the spine and the condition of adult scoliosis.

Pilates teachers need to be made aware of their limitations in dealing with scoliosis. This course will give teachers the knowledge and insight to make informed decisions about clients with scoliosis.

This course does not qualify a Pilates teacher to diagnose scoliosis

The Comprehensive PowerPoint presentation will cover:

    An overview of spinal anatomy

The spinal anatomical changes caused by scoliosis in the sagittal, transverse and frontal planes

    Classification of curvatures

    Causes of scoliosis

    Diagnosis: professional methods and tests

    Treatment with bracing or surgery

Spinal movements that are beneficial for scoliosis

  • Lunch will be served at restaurant Delphine, which is conveniently located across the road from the studio.

  • Practical Session: Examine an adult with scoliosis

    • Identify curve pattern, pointing out dorsal prominences

    • Identify spinal rotation

    • Position of head

    • Position of arms in the frame of body

    • Pelvic rotation/hike (protruding hip)

    • Knee alignment

    • Supinated/pronated feet, where the weight is different

    • Unequal horizontal levels on frontal plane

    • Curves in the sagittal plane

    • Weak limbs

Day 3 Schedule - Friday, 1st July:

  • *Mat class has to be booked separately. It is not included in the price of the workshop. Please contact us at info@studio41pilates.com for bookings.

  • Pilates teachers constantly need to be motivated and inspired. Dealing with a busy studio often leads to complacency and boring repetitive teaching.

Teachers also tend to neglect their personal practice due to a lack of time or motivation.

“In order to teach, you have to do it and feel it” is one of Joseph Pilates’ many mantras.

This course aims to further develop the teacher’s eye. Learning to identify and focus on the client’s particular needs provides a teaching challenge and encourages the teacher to make use of all the valuable accessory Pilates equipment available.

The goal of this workshop will be:

    1. To refine personal practice on the Mat with the focus on correct movement patterns……. nipping the problems in the bud!

    2. To refresh teaching skills by coaxing the best out of the client, employing building blocks and/or props

    3. To recognize obvious, as well as subtler, problem areas

    Course Agenda:

Starting with the Body Scan, the course will incorporate Basic Fundamentals (Pre-Pilates exercises) progressing to more challenging Fundamentals.

We will look at the ‘ideal’ of the first 4 Mat exercises and address problems as they arise.

Problem areas that have shown up amongst the students in the course will be addressed and the appropriate accessory equipment/props employed to seek solutions.

    Common ‘areas of opportunity, include:

    • Tight lower back due to lumbar lordosis/psoas syndrome

    • Long straight inflexible backs with flattened curves

    • Kyphotic thoracic spines with forwarding necks

    • Marked weakness of one leg

    • Tight hip flexors and incorrect compensatory adjustments

    • Shoulder tightness, and unilateral weakness of shoulder musculature

    • Knee/ankle alignment variations

  • Lunch will be served at restaurant Delphine, which is conveniently located across the road from the studio.

  • This workshop will address the precision and attention to detail that Joe Pilates demanded on the reformer.

Although Joe did not adhere to the order, he was adamant about how to get on and off the reformer correctly, applying the correct transitions with economy of movement, and performing each exercise with the utmost concentration and intensity.

This workshop will help teachers understand progression, provide good imagery cues and help develop the teacher’s critical eye.
